Promptly Health chosen for nationwide NHS Wales patient-centered data contract

05/03/2024

CARDIFF and LISBON, Mar. 5, 2024 - Promptly Health announced today it has been selected as the technological partner of the National Health Service (NHS) organizations in Wales for managing the collection and harmonization of patient-centered outcomes data.

The National Framework worth an estimated £11m initially shortlisted 5 companies in November 2023, with Promptly ultimately selected by NHS Boards in January 2024 for the deployment of a first contract. The contract will run over three years, with a potential extension for an additional two years. The procurement process involved an extensive and careful assessment of technological partners’ capabilities in outcomes collection, namely in terms of patient accessibility, technology innovativeness and fit-for-purpose, in data security and compliance, and in data interoperability to the NHS Wales operational data requirements.

NHS Wales is the public funded National Health Service of Wales providing healthcare to 3 million people who live in the country. The organization has been at the forefront of high-value care planning in Europe, being highlighted as a Global Innovation Hub by the World Economic Forum and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) Health, an independent EU body. Since 2019, NHS Wales has been developing pilots for collecting patient-centered outcomes, demonstrating its feasibility in numerous scientific publications, conferences and educational courses. The new contract asks for a wider health system expansion of the outcomes collection capabilities, and mostly a stronger interoperability with digital health products (namely with the patient-facing NHS Portal) and standardized harmonization to the NHS Wales Data Dictionary, as a prerequisite for faster and higher-quality analytics and research.

Promptly partners with leading public and private health systems across Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific. The company has been vocal in advocating for a new operational model for the use of health data, based on privacy-enhancing technologies that allow data to remain within the healthcare organizations infrastructure. Promptly stands out from other Real-World Evidence competitors in Europe, as it identifies patient-centered outcomes as one of the most critical untapped information for fostering the sustainability of health systems worldwide.

"We are thrilled to be supporting the NHS Wales vision to achieve world leading health outcomes for the people of Wales in a financially sustainable way” expressed Pedro Ramos, CEO at Promptly Health. "This contract emphasizes our strong commitment to fulfil our mission of making health outcomes available and aligns with our broader work with partners in the UK for delivering real-world evidence that can be used for shared decision making by patients and healthcare professionals, and for patient-focused research and development. We now expect to witness other large-sized partnerships for health system data collection and sharing technology, with the acceleration of the Secure Data Environments in the UK and the European Health Data Space in Europe, for which we are serving as an industry advisor.
