Promptly Health Breaks Barriers to Secure Data Sharing: Supporting Game-Changer for the European Health Data Space
18/12/2024LISBON, December 18th, 2025 - Promptly Health, a leading innovator in privacy-preserving health data access and analytics technologies, is proud to unveil its pivotal role in the project "Governance and Trust Gateway for Federated Health Networks in the European Health Data Space (EHDS)." This initiative is revolutionizing how hospitals and health systems securely share and unlock the value of sensitive health data through federated learning frameworks and robust data governance policies.
By leveraging advanced privacy-preserving technologies, Promptly’s solution allows healthcare institutions to access and share health data insights without physically moving or exposing sensitive information. The innovation directly supports the EU’s European Health Data Space (EHDS) initiative, which aims to transform healthcare delivery, foster research and innovation, and enable AI-driven breakthroughs across Europe.
“We've essentially built a digital vault that lets healthcare systems share insights without ever opening the vault,” said Pedro Ramos, CEO of Promptly Health. “Through federated frameworks and robust governance, healthcare organizations can unlock the transformative potential of health data without compromising privacy. This is a foundational step toward a collaborative European Health Data Space.”
This data network has been tested in a real-life context in the area of respiratory infections, such as respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), SARS-CoV-2 and influenza (flu), the so-called “tripledemic” together with 2 large Academic hospitals. The pilots demonstrated how secure, federated data sharing enables real-time collaboration, paving the way for initiatives such as the National Observatory for Respiratory Diseases.
The project was developed collaboratively by Promptly Health, Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN), and the Local Health Units of Coimbra (ULSC) and Santo António (ULS SA). Promptly led the creation of the federated learning framework, while IPN brought its expertise in data protection. Both ULSC and ULS SA contributed to testing the solution in real-life clinical environments.
As part of the TrustChain consortium, Promptly ensures the solution aligns with principles being defined for the EHDS. The project is funded under TrustChain's Open Call #2 for User Privacy and Data Governance.
